Raynes Park rugby club secures pavilion makeover boost

A south London rugby club has won money towards building supplies to renovate its pavilion and boost sporting opportunities in the area.

Raynes Park caught the judges’ attention from hundreds of entries, securing £1,000 to spend at Selco on building materials for the community space. 

The club is a key part of the area, with the facilities being used beyond rugby.

Raynes Park club chair Justin Latta said: “We are thrilled to receive this fantastic prize from Selco.

“We are keen to make our facilities as good as they can be, and a lot of work is going on behind the scenes.

“These building materials will make a huge difference, and will also allow us to use our cash reserves elsewhere.”

Raynes Park runs teams from juniors to seniors and their Taunton Avenue ground is serves as a hub for two other clubs, as well as hosting a university team midweek.

They also run outreach sessions to help encourage rugby in secondary schools, while their facilities are used for karate, gymnastics and other activities. 

This is the fifth year builders merchant Selco has run the Community Heroes competition, helping dozens of charities to revamp their facilities. 

This year, the campaign will see 40 monthly prizes of £1,000 to spend in-store award.

Raynes Park are also in contention to be one of ten national finalists picked by Selco for the chance to win £10,000.

A public vote will decide the winner of the five-figure prize, while second place will earn £5,000 and third will get £2,500.
